Onions and garlic
I can’t stop painting onions at the moment!!
I can’t stop painting onions at the moment!!
They are out in full force now………a welcome sight.
Back to normal at last. I even went to the David Hockney exhibition yesterday which was totally amazing – the man is a genius. I’d like his talent and energy, the amount of work he produces is incredible and it is totally mesmerising. Anyway, I digress – some humble paperwhites.
I’m hoping to have a more productive week next week. The sun is shining on all the things I want to paint. In the meantime, here’s a stack of Cornishware from my cupboard – finished a couple of weeks ago.
Apologies for recent lack of input due to illness. Half-term degenerated into a week’s being out of action (medically). Beginning to get there and should be back in full working order in a day or two.
In the meantime, this little picture was a birthday present last week for an amazing and much-loved mother-in-law. Sorry to gush, but she is just great – Les Dawson, eat your heart out. Snowdrops are a great favourite of hers and they bloom in her birthday month. The photo behind is of her with her siblings as children holding pet lambs on their farm. In the interests of perspective, that may not be immediately apparent! The wallpaper addresses her love of William Morris though, yet again, artistic licence dictates that it be scaled down.
Just about to head north for a few days in Cumbria, walking and catching up with family. I really need to go on a photography course to get better photos of these paintings.
A busy day so I had to choose something simple to paint which turned out to be more complicated than I thought.
Painting that mustard tin yesterday made me want to raid the larder………so I did.
I found these lovely little Scilly Isles paperwhites in the covered market in Oxford. The smell was amazing but you have to catch them just right – there’s a slight cat-pee tendency. As for the tin, I was in a friend’s studio admiring his new work when this makeshift pencil pot caught my eye. I knew I wanted to paint it and have promised to give it back………..that was last summer – a bit of a magpie.
My internet connection has been down all day but finally – I’m back on board. I can’t believe how dependent I am on the airwaves, I have felt quite cut off from all forms of life what with that and the snow. Still, it meant a day in my jim-jams and there’s a lot to be said for that.
