Japonica

A friend brought me an armful of this lovely blossom last week, it grows on the side of her house – I’ve had several goes at it. Back in the studio after a busy weekend. I saw a brilliant film, the place beyond the pines, which was full of excellent acting and a terrific film score to boot. Am now a big fan of Bon Iver. It takes a while for current music to make it to my ears as I listen to radio 4 rather than music stations. Anyway enough of that. Floss was thrilled as she not only got to go to a Beyonce concert but got upgraded to the VIP area where she got up close to her heroine and even touched her hand…..cue loud screams.

Quails eggs and capers

I didn’t get it together on the posting front in Seville but here’s one I made earlier. Seville was just wonderful. Such beautiful buildings, fabulous tapas and warm weather, how could it fail to impress. I’m really going to have to get a spurt on now as spring and summer shows are coming up and there’s lots to do. Information on upcoming shows will be on the homepage shortly.

Quail eggs and orchid

Ok…what’s going on? I thought spring had arrived. This just won’t do, I’ve put a jumper back on so that’s it, I’m going to sulk now and go and find some sunshine. Off to Seville tomorrow for a few days, hopefully will return more inspired and with warmed bones. Will try and post but it doesn’t always work. I shall be doing lots of sketching rather than painting as cabin luggage doesn’t allow for paints!

Quails eggs and feather

I love these little quails eggs and they will be in my salad tomorrow. Bubba has been prowling the perimeters of the estate today under my watchful gaze, just about to sail over the wall like Steve McQueen on his motorbike when I stopped him short. He got his revenge, crawling commando style under the fence into next door’s garden but was hemmed in as their boundaries are much more secure. Am wondering how long we can keep this up. Anyone want a spanielxjack Russell puppy in a few months?

Primrose

Yippee the sun is out. Bubba is making a bid for freedom, continuously trying the temporary garden wall. I think maybe love is in the air as well as spring. I’ve been in the papers today….well, the local anyway (Chronicle and echo) painting in the studio. Ah, fame at last 🙂

Mandarins and Steph’s bowl

I found another of these paintings that I’d forgotten about. I have had my washing on the line today as it was such a great drying day, very blowy. A mistake perhaps since my smalls blew off into the field behind. Oops, some very surprised sheep.

I thought I’d done with this bowl but have managed to squeeze one more out before it gets returned to its rightful owner. The sun is out and it’s just a matter of time before things start popping up to be painted. I have, in a bucket outside, some beautiful red japonica which a friend gave me to paint. Tomorrow, tomorrow.

Fred

Not a daily painting today. This was a commission for a birthday and stars the inimitable Fred who, in this painting is giving a convincing impression of an obedient Labrador, if such a thing exists. I had to chase him around my kitchen with the camera when he came for a “sitting” – the inoperative word.

Pears and pomegranate in bowl

I’m in the Made in Northamptonshire shop this afternoon playing shopkeepers – badly! I’m not sure Mr. Selfridge would have employed me with my lack of till skills. Still, I just made a sale to a touring actor playing Grace Kelly’s part in High Society at the Derngate. Lovely girl and extremely patient with idiot shopkeepers. I think sadly this must be the last painting with this lovely wonky-lipped Japanese bowl since I borrowed it from a friend at Christmas. I should really give it back. Have a good weekend. I shall be heading up to Wakefield on Sunday to watch Floss play in the under-16s club hockey UK finals – c’mon the reds! Very exciting, I shall have to restrain myself from any fishwife enthusiasm. Pray for sunshine and a win.

Hydrangeas on a shelf

These sit on a kitchen shelf all year round until September when the new flower heads start to turn bronze and I cut some fresh ones. I am solo looking forward to the promised weekend sunshine. Bring it on.
