A bit random I know but this was a wedding present commission for a bride  with a penchant for the stuff.  Apparently she loves it although it’s unclear whether her new husband shares this particular passion.  Anyway, congratulations to them both.

Now, hang onto your hats -here’s some pretty big news.  Next week will be the last for a while of me daily painting and blogging.  The fact of the matter is that I’m moving…….kind of.  Jobbers  is working in Pakistan and I am off to join him for a while.  I will of course be taking up the brushes again once I’m settled but there is no telling how many weeks that might take.  I hope you will stick with me, it promises to be an interesting ride. Think “Postcard from Pakistan”.  More on all that next week.  Here’s a daily.

These have been drying out in my studio for weeks and are beginning to emit  a subtle pungency so they had to be painted and stored elsewhere.  Right, lots of news to come but here’s the first bit.  I have brought out some more prints which can be found either here on this website  (see prints on header menu) or at www.spiritboutique.com (you can press the icon on my homepage). Have a look at the Spirit site as there are lots of nice things on it!  Spirit is a part of house&garden magazine.

Jug and eggshells

I started off painting a still life this morning but couldn’t settle.  After my day painting on Sunday with Roy Connelly, I wanted to get outside and ended the day painting “my boys” the steers ( or are they bullocks? Never sure of the correct term)in the field behind my garden. Not really finished so maybe another day for  that one.  Anyway, take a look at Roy’s great work at royconnelly.com.  His workshop is really worth joining.  So, in the meantime, here’s one i’ve just finished for an upcoming exhibition. I meant to thank all those of  you who visited me in my “open studio” over the past two weeks.  It was great meeting you and thanks for making the trip…….some of you a long one!  Exciting news tomorrow……..

Track at Assington Mill

I thought I’d show you what I was up to in Suffolk yesterday.  I was on a workshop with Roy Connelly at Assington Mill doing a bait I’d Plein-air painting. I think I may have caught the bug, it’s a great way to spend a day.  Anyway, here is my first attempt. A bit tight for my liking but, as my old Dad used to say, practice makes perfect. I just need to loosen up a bit.

Cherries on a square plate

Back to cherries  again.  I am really looking forward to this weekend, not just because it is supposedly warming up but because I am off on a workshop with Roy Connelly, Plein-air painting in Suffolk.  You may well be getting a landscape in Monday’s blog. Enjoy the weekend.

This is not a daily painting but I had to post it because, much to my excitement, I’ve just discovered it has made it through the first round of selection for the New English Art Club open.   That, by no means is guarantee of final selection, but it’s a start…..watch this space.  Today I had three visitors come to my open studio from Birmingham.  After coffee and a good chat, they went away happy with not only some of my work but also bags full of plums from our tree which is groaning under the strain.

Figs and eggshells

These figs are from a friend’s garden.  The fig tree is his prize possession of her husband and he guards the crop closely.  This bounty had to be smuggled out for me.  I’m confident he doesn’t read my blog otherwise I’d be rumbled.

Peaches and paper

The very last of the peaches, which I have to admit to painting a couple of weeks back.  Another one to find a new home from my Open Studio.  it’s really quiet here with the dog away on his gap year at Grandad’s (more on why later) and Jobbers overseas.  Still, it means I get more done.  I have been painting for an exhibition and will show you some later this week.

Fig and Grandma’s bowl

This little sugar bowl belonged to my grandmother and sits on a bureau in our sitting-room.  I thought the colours reflected some of the hues in the fig.  Anyway, it was bought on Saturday by one of my open studio visitors. One more week of OS.  I’m really enjoying meeting new people and showing them my work and new studio.  I’m not sure I can drink much more coffee though.
