Swellendam

Here is where we are holed up for two days, under the “eleven o’clock mountain” as it’s known locally as that is what time the sun hits it. Not today alas, I flew off that track quickly when lightening struck and went to rescue Jobbers from the golf course. Found him at the 19th with a couple of hardy old retired locals shooting the breeze. Nothing for it but to join them until the rain stops. No luck yet and I really want to paint this small house before we move on.

Franschhoek

We loved Franschhoek and went to a wine estate this morning for a wine tasting before realising we had a long drive ahead. Aborted that plan so that I could paint and Jobbers could read the paper in the car! A long drive through the Overburg brought us to a little oasis in Swallendam. We are staying at the foot of a mountain with Jersey cows in our front garden. Can’t wait to paint in the morning.
Here’s Franschhoek painting in need of a tweak.

Painting in Paarl

I’ve fallen head over heels with this country! This was my view in waking up yesterday morning so just had to paint it. Vines, mountains, what’s not to like? Am seriously thinking of organising a painting holiday here…..anyone in?

Devon valley

A busy afternoon painting the beautiful Devon Valley, Stellenbosch where I made a new friend! The evening spent sampling local produce. Well, it would be churlish not to.

Stellenbosch

Loving South Africa. After a few days in Cape Town we headed down to the cape stopping en route but it was way too windy for my poor tripod and box. In fact I was pretty scared for myself at the Cape of Good Hope where I lost my new hat! Made it to Stellenbosch via a beautiful estate called Vergelegen where I managed a quick painting whikst Jobbers slept under a camphor tree. Up with the lark this morning for another session whilst he slept on. Off out again now while he has a nap. Each to their own eh?

Brancaster staithe

The blog that never was. Here is the study for a painting I’m working on. However, more of that later. Exciting times. Jobbers and I feel in need of an escape so are heading down to Cape Town for a little jolly. Paints are packed so hoping to get to grips with mountains, sea, vineyards……..ooh can’t wait. Hopefully blogging will work! Have a great weekend.

Lemons in rice bowl

I needed a good excuse to get my new blue out again and these were just the job! It’s such a slooooow drier though. Sorry about the rubbish photo but you get the idea.

Lemons in a dessert dish

The lemons we get here are pretty small at this time of year but very cute and just the perfect size, halved, for a gin and
tonic……so I’m told.

Eggs on black

I’ve been using my lovely new blue colour but can’t show you yet as it’s such an incredibly slow drier. In the meantime, here’s one I made earlier.
