Treacle tin

Just too hot! I know I shouldn’t say it but….
I was out painting barns yesterday and got home too tired to blog and needing to cook. Will show you that one once I’ve finished it. So here’s one I made earlier. Will post roses tomorrow and peonies coming up!

Strawberries and jar

We have been enjoying a veritable glut of strawberries at Chapel Cottage, them being pretty much all that there is in our veggie beds since were not always able to water. If I had the time or the inclination I would make jam. I wouldn’t be able to compete though with the jam sent to me by a lovely blogee of DPCC. Her ravishing raspberry jam is to die for and is much enjoyed here. Hence the empty jar!
Have a lovely weekend. Wish I was going to Glastonbury but don’t know if I could cope with the loos!

Orange segments

No painting yesterday as family matters took priority. So, let me show you a larger painting that will be wending it’s way to Childwickbury next week. Thanks to all those who sent info on where Sweet Williams got their name. It seems that William Duke of Northumberland is most likely but maybe we’ll never know for sure.

Mme Alred Carriere

I planted this outside my studio window last year as it doesn’t mind being north-facing – a bit like painters. It obviously likes it as it’s thriving. Couldn’t resist.

Sweet Williams

I was discussing the merits of the Sweet William with an elderly gentleman in the queue at Waitrose when buying these. We agreed that there were few things more quintessentially English than a jam-jar full on a mantelpiece. However, neither of us knew why they are called Sweet Williams. Any ideas?? Please let me know.

Cherries on a shelf

A late in the day blog today as the sun came out at 4.30 so I felt compelled to dash out to do a bit of plein-air. It was all going so well…..until I realised I hadn’t brought any paints with me except what was in my box. Soon ran out and had to improvise with all sorts of colours to try and get the tones. Going to have to work it up from a photo!
Cherries for your delictation. Put them in some cup cakes when I’d finished but burnt them….not my finest hour.

Raspberry jam

No post yesterday as I was on a course learning how to get ahead using social media etc. I’m a bit of a Luddite so it was well worth it. A very good course for “creatives” who are a bit pants at marketing. Here’s the link if you feel the need http://www.therefectorytable.com. I’d recommend it plus the lunch was amazing which is all that’s needed to tempt me, lots of lovely salads!
Jam for tea…..not really, sausages. Two boys in the house.

Treacle

After the wolves had been home for the weekend, was sadly lacking in subject matter so grabbed this from the larder. It’s going to a new home in as part payment for some lovely frames. More on that later. Love the bartering system! Two guinea-pigs anyone?
