Helmdon barns

This is the road that my buddies and I walk on a Saturday morning…six miles and coffee to follow. I spotted these barns in the morning and went back to paint them later. Travelling up to Cumbria tonight to see family – hoping for some fair weather as I’m packing my paints! Have a wonderful bank holiday.

Clair de lune

Some more of the same roses but with a few photos of how I got there. I have just settled on new dates for January workshops on 9th, 11th or 12th. It’s a bit early I know but if you’d like a place reserved, do contact me.

Figs in a desert dish

I just love figs and have just booked onto a one-day course to learn how best to use them, and other things, c/o Ottolenghi, my current favourite chef. Can’t wait! August is pressing on and I’m busy getting Floss ready to leave home and start at Leeds Art School. Much buying of slotted spoons, cheese graters etc which will, in my experience, never come back. Hey-ho.

Clair de lune

These were brought to me by a friend coming for supper. I love this rose as they’re slightly globe-shaped, a most delicate colour and delicious scent. I had to get them done quickly on Sunday as they were fading fast. Rain, rain, rain today. Bubba is eyeing me from his basket in case I might brave it. Sorry pal…no chance.

plums in a white bowl

oooer. A technical glitch meant I’ve been locked out of my website all day so this one’s late! No idea why or even how I got back in but then again, I’m a total Luddite.
Here are some plums for you to mull over, Have a great weekend. Set fair tomorrow!

Caldecote cornfields

I spotted this open gate while I was walking the dog so dashed back to get my paints because it spoke to me. I took Bubba back with me too and he had a ball jumping around in the long grass and harassing people who stopped to speak to me. He just seems to think that all humans have biscuits in their pockets at all times. Err, no.

Apricots and stone jar

I’ve been busy prepping boards and framing but managed to squeeze this one in this morning. Very pleased with my new tray frames from the very clever Mr. Dabson (contact details available). I was never happy with the frame on this painting but this one sets it off a treat.

I found a photo of my winning painting in The Artist magazine today. You can see all the prize winners in there and also vote for the people’s choice. Alternatively you can go to www.painters-online.co.uk. How about entering yourself next year? If anyone has a characterful chair I could paint, I’m hoping to extend this theme and would be grateful for a loan. This week I have an apricot thing going on.

Cribbage Chair

Blush noisette and paper

Ooooh it feels good to be back in the saddle after a hectic couple of weeks of wedding and finishing off larger paintings.
The wedding was great and the sun even came out after a week of Welsh drizzle. The Gower was beautiful and I even managed to squeeze in a bit of plein-air painting. So now it’s back to “dailies” and workshops coming up….busy, busy.
Here’s one from the garden. As Elvis Costello would say, it’s been a good year for the roses. I’ve also included a photo of the happy couple, jus because I’m allowed to be a proud mummy/mother-in-law.
