Mushrooms

Something a little ”off-festive” today and was the welcome protagonist of an omlette last night. So much rich food having been digested, it’s lovely to get back to basics…….if I needed anything at all!!
As the year draws to an end, I’d like to thank you all massively for supporting me and following my blog. It’s been a blast and I’ve got exciting plans and a big anniversary coming up but more on that next week. In the meantime, Happy New Year to you all and I wish you much success and happiness in 2016.

Pomegranates and blue bowl

I’m not sure why I keep painting pomegranates because when I get back to Pakistan next week, they will be everywhere! Anyway, this one was a late Christmas purchase. Hoping everyone is surviving the mighty Frank today, fingers crossed.

Pomegranates

Well, I don’t know about you but frankly I’m glad that’s all over. Lovely though it was, soooo glad to get back into the studio this morning, completely ignoring all the mess and detritus that’s been left behind. Sorry to have been away but this festive malarky does take so much time to prepare for and now we’ve just discovered that Flora’s uni room in Leeds is a foot under water……marvellous. Anyway, that aside, here are some pomegranates that I managed at some point over the proceedings. Not the best of photos as the paint was still wet.

Baby lemons and silk

The sun came back out today thankfully and it’s Friday to boot! Still working on these little lemons and found the cute little coffee cup I bought here last year.
Apparently I am in this month’s edition of Artist and Illustrator. Hopefully my copy will be sitting on the mat when I get home. I’m back to blighty next week and needing to prepare for the festivities so will probably not be blogging until January. Merry Christmas to you all.

Baby lemons and bowl

These are new-crop lemons which are pretty sharp at this stage! Ok for a gin and tonic though of course.
I’m glad I did this yesterday as it’s pretty dark today and I’m having seeing well enough to paint. It’s raining cats and dogs but then I don’t suppose I’ll get much sympathy from you over the pond! I hear the rain in Cumbria is back and causing more flooding. Hope everyone is ok.

Guava

I had to paint these fast as they were somewhat pungent! In fact, I thought a tom-cat (of which there are plenty roaming the compound) had got into the house. Euuuch. Anyway, they make great juice and I like this copper dish which is part of a set of scales.

Jonquils in a honey jar

I’m having a lot of trouble with my boards. A bad workman and all that…….but they seem to be super-absorbent and I dont know if it’s the paint I’m priming them with or the boards themselves. It’s a mystery but finding supplies here is tricky and my Urdu being pretty non-existent means labels are an even bigger mystery. Hey ho. Onwards and upwards, think I’ll try and find some more primer. Had a great day painting on Sunday at an historical railway station and seemed to attract an awful lot of attention from local children and Afghani children who live by the tracks. They seem all to have nine lives or more! They are gorgeous but don’t really get the concept of personal space. It was pretty difficult trying to paint with them all pushing, shoving and poking around in my kit. Jobbers came to the rescue with a large bag of Haribo!

Jonquils in an olive jar

Back to the drawing board after a busy weekend and some exciting plein-air painting. More on that later. Despite the weather, there aren’t many cut flowers to be had here (unless you like turquoise-dyed gladioi) but there is an old lady that sells Jonquils by the bucket-full near our shops. They fill the house with a scent that……takes a bit of getting used to but they are pretty and I scooped a couple of bunches up on Friday. The paint was still wet when I photographed it. Apologies.

Oranges and Multan tile

Sorry I didn’t blog yesterday. Had a much needed admin day – you know, lists upon lists and the dreaded tax return! Anyway, these oranges are the sweet variety that make delicious juice and the tile is Pakistani from the town of Multan. Off to celebrate the King of Thailand’s birthday this evening, well in Pakistan, so looking forward to some good Thai food……mmm
