Row of plums

I love a bit of bloom on some plums.  It keeps me happy – it’s the little things in life.

I’ll be tearing up the M1 come morning to be at the private view of The Artist exhibition at Patchings Art Centre when, in a break from the norm, I’m exhibiting plein-air landscapes along with some other artists.  It’s a bit out of my comfort zone as I’m much more used to having still life on the walls.  Wish me luck.

Demo piece 3

Here’s the last demo piece from recent workshops.  It was done realllllly quickly as I had another piece on the go for the still-lifers.  We like to cater!  So, anyway, it was the last of the roses which were a challenge but the students did amazingly well.

This weekend, I will be at the private view at Patchings of the mixed artists exhibition which was part of the prize I won there last year.  I also have work at the Cambridge Affordable Art Fair on this weekend where I’ll be represented by Art Salon so if you’re near either and you’d like a free or two for one ticket – let me know.

Artichoke on a box

Well, I had a great time painting in Norfolk at the weekend but I’m back in the studio now and raring to go on all the delicious fruits that are turning colour.  Love a bit of rotting fruit.  Here’s a sneaky peak at what I got up to in Norfolk and an artichoke in full deliciousness.

Three figs

I love this time of year – all the fruits are beautiful colours.

Just wanted to let you know that I have spaces on workshops on 29th and 31st October and 1st November if you’re up for a fun day’s painting and a delicious lunch.  The one on the 1st is going to be Christmas themed with the opportunity to have your image made into Christmas cards with which to wow your nearest, dearest and long lost Auntie Maud.  The ultimate comeback to the brag-filled round robin Christmas letter!

Victorias and soup bowl

Plums were a bit scant in our garden this year – not sure why.  Anyway, I managed to get one or two done before the wasps had them all.  I’m working on some larger paintings this week so posts may be a bit scant too.  Time for a cup of tea now though.

Spotty jug and cherries again

I’ve become quite attached to this spotty jug.  This painting is off to a French kitchen soon but no doubt the jug will reappear in others.  My ”props” cupboard is groaning – I’ve really got to get a grip!

Have a great weekend whatever the weather brings.

Artichoke

I was wandering down the veg aisle in Waitrose, as is my wont, when this little chap spoke to me from the shelf and asked me to take him home and paint him…….so I did.  I speak to vegetables a lot.  A constant source of worry.

Black nasturtiums

Well, I had a great week in Venice last week, painting with like-minded friends.  The weather was balmy and the light soooooooo inspiring.

I did these nasturtiums before I left and they are a very rich, dark red, almost black.  The flowers are quite small but I always think the leaves are lovely.

Cherries and spotty jug

I love a spotty jug!  This one was espied on my “drying shelf” in the kitchen by a friend who has whisked it off to Australia to give as a gift.  Love it when my paintings find a new home on another isle.

Speaking of travel, I’m off to Venice for a week of painting.  If I can get wifi I will blog, otherwise I will see you in a week……..have a great weekend.

Figs and wallpaper

I thought I’d make use of the figs while they’re around.

I’m pleased to say that I’m now a gallery artist with The Harbour Gallery, Portscatho and Art Salon (opening soon in Bath).  Art Salon will have some of my larger work at the Bristol Affordable Art Fair from 9th September so if you’re in the area, please go and have a look.  I quite like the dichotomy between the fast oil sketches and the more studied larger pieces, it’s a bit like doing a few exercises to warm up before a run.  Not that I ever run!
