Coffee cup

I’m just back from France were I had a fantastic and inspiring few days at Le Somail, Aude in the South of France, visiting possible painting sites and the wonderful house I have secured for…….wait for it, a painting holiday next September.  We’ll be painting the canal, vineyards, salt marshes and various beautiful French towns.  You can find most of the details here https://pennygerman.com/alpha-painting-holidays/ and I’ll be taking bookings soon if you’d like to join us.  All levels catered for.  There,  that should get us all through these dark winter months!  If you have any questions, do email me at [email protected].

In the meantime, here’s a quickie of a particular favourite prop of mine.

Cherries and cups

It’s been all about the whites and reflections this week. Battling to get shadows into my whites so there’s been a lot of experimentation. This little experiment was the start of it all. Off to Cumbria this weekend for a few days. No wifi to speak of where we’re staying but if I do find some I’ll blog my plein-air Cumbrian scenes. Have a great BH weekend.

Coronation mugs

I did this little one on request and it will be heading overseas in due course. I also used it as a demo piece for an article I’m writing on negative space…….more on that later.
I wish all this cloud would clear off. I’ve a desperate urge to paint Freya’s gorgeous old pram under our apple tree but I need some good light. I also need to get back to Coton Manor to paint their glorious wisteria which is in full bloom. Tomorrow there’s a small window of sunshine amidst the gloom so I will be taking the opportunity. Bags are packed ready to go. Could be a long day so if you don’t hear from me………..

Strawberry jam

Well I don’t know about you but I definitely feel as though spring is here.  Lambs bleating behind my garden wall and beds full of snowdrops, not to mention the rise in temperature…….lovely.

So what did I paint to celebrate the arrival of spring?  A jar of jam of course, what else.  Have a great weekend.

Marmite

There was really only one subject I could have on the easel today!  Haven’t done a Marmite jar in such a long time I thought I’d better do one while stocks last;)

Hope to see some of you at my open studio tommorow.  Plenty to see.  The postcode is NN12 8AG and thereafter, follow the yellow arrows.  Kettle’s on.

Cornishware and eggshells

I think I’m going to move to Scotland – fed up with this weather! I’ve been gearing up for my forthcoming workshops on Friday to Monday, swiftly followed by Patchings Arts Festival next week – boy, a lot of organising and packing to be done. I had an omlette for supper last night so………….

Plums and sake cup

Listening to Bob Dylan on the Ipod and painting……..what more can a girl want. The sun is shining but I can’t be tempted.
Plums today.

Mackerel

I’ve been busy finishing off this one so no daily painting for today. This is a larger one 30×40 and boy, did it get smelly in the studio! Need to work faster if I’m going to carry on the fish theme. I have a fancy to do a crab but I think they’re sold live here and I can’t bring myself to either boil it or let it die slowly and certainly don’t want to find it halfway across the studio floor in the morning – dilemma!

Coronation mugs

It’s been a while since I’ve painted these but what with it being HM The Queen’s 90th birthday, I thought perhaps I would. Seems to be a hive of industry here in preparation for the festivities……balloons, jellies, pass the parcel. No, not really, think it will be a little more refined, but you never know!

Garlic and cornishware

Phew, it’s getting warm now. Not hot enough to swim but rather warm to be doing long walks – I’ll just have to march on the spot at the easel in the air-conditioning. Anyway, the sweetpeas are glorious and spilling over the fences so that’ my remit next week. Always something to paint here. In the meantime, the spoils of my fridge…..
