Cherries

It’s getting flippin’ cold and, since I’m not a great fan of the chill, I’m holed up in my studio.  Things seem to be bursting forth in the garden all out of sync.  Daffs before Snowdrops – what on earth is going on?  At this time of year I get a bit manic trying to paint anything and everything…….not enough time.  Also, I’m busy trying to get two collections together eeek!  One for the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea in March (c/o John Noott Gallery) and one for little old me to take to the Surrey Contemporary Art Fair in ………….yep, March.  So much for planning things out.  Anyway, it’ll all come out in the wash as my ole Granny used to say.  I bought some cherries to include in a couple of large paintings so did this study beforehand to get me in the mood.  I have to say, it’s taken a while to get my mojo back after the Christmas break but think I’m getting there finally – fair leapt out of bed this morning!

Iris unguicularis

I’m still knee-deep in admin, preparation and commission so still very little time to keep up with my daily (hmmm) oil sketches.  Bear with me a while longer but I’ll be back in time for those spring flowers.

In the meantime, here’s a little sketch whose mate will be on view at my exhibition ‘The Year at Coton Manor’.  It starts on February 1st and runs until April 15th so do pop in and have a looksie if you can.

Coton Manor

A very happy new year to you all!  Excuse my prolonged absence but pre-Christmas I was furiously working up to and stewarding two exhibitions, one in Stratford-upon-Avon and one in London.  I made lots of sales which allows and encourages me to carry on doing what I love.  It meant of course, fewer ‘dailies’ and I’m still not up and running on that front as I’m now gearing up for my next exhibition – phew!  It’s my collection of Coton Manor paintings which I’ve been working at all year, painting en-plein air and still-life in the studio.  It will be on at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh house, 78 Derngate, Northampton from 1st Feb to mid-April.  If you’d like to join me on the private view – please let me know.  Below is a little taster.

Other news is that I have workshops coming up and I’m also busy arranging my painting holiday in France where I’d love you to join me.  Details of both are on my website https://pennygerman.com/workshops/

When I get back in the studio rather than tearing around to framers and the like, I will post again with my dailies.

Clementine on tile

A while back, I stopped at the factory shop for Fired Earth tiles and just couldn’t resist a little purchase. I’ve got a plan to incorporate my new tiles into larger paintings so was just mucking about with this clementine against the smoky blue of the tiles.

Cherries and cup

Back in the studio after a busy day in London yesterday. The ROI pv was great fun and I caught up with a lot of painter friends and made some new ones. I also sold my painting so was quite chuffed. I was hoping to get to Coton Manor for some painting today but the wind was too strong and would have made it a nightmare. Getting ready now for my next exhibition in Hammersmith which starts next Monday at the Hepsibah gallery along with Lesley Dabson. Here’s a little coffee cup for you. Right, I’m off to turn up the thermostat!

Clems again

Well, you were warned. To me, it doesn’t matter what I paint just so long as I’m painting. I like to squeeze every last drop out of my purchases. They must start to rot soon. Tell me when you’re getting bored…

I was thrilled to discover Waitrose are stocking these clementines with the leaves still on. I haven’t painted them with leaves on since leaving Pakistan. Good ol’ Waitrose. I have a few dailies on my ‘available paintings’ page if you’re looking for a lovely Christmas present. Small enough to post too or I could wrap and post for you if you put the correct shipping address on. I also have prints if you’d rather a less expensive gift.
