Black and green

My borders are full of these lovely black tulips, Queen of the Night to be precise. I have built up my stocks over the years and contrary to expert opinion, they keep going year on year.

Three black tulips

8''x8'', oil on gessoboard - SOLD

These are the last of them as they’ve all been blown off their stalks.  I forgot to post a picture of my white tulips in their crates yesterday so that’s below and you should be able to make out some of the black ones above.

Two black tulips

8''x8'', oil on gessoboard - SOLD

I have a garden full of these Queen of the Night tulips.  I love the way they contrast with all the new spring foliage emerging.  They behave beautifully, keeping their shape for a long time but I like them best when they start to open up wide in the first throes of death like this one!  The receptacle is an old capers jar.

This painting is currently en route with others to the Spirit of Summer fair at Olympia and will be with its friends on stand E5 (near the entrance and bag drop-off) belonging to Charlotte Supple Interiors.  It’s a great fair and a great stand full of french bric-a-brac and other items, so if you’re in the area – come along.
