Figs in a bowl 1

Right then, back to the easel after a hectic weekend. The South Northants Art Trail is having it’s first ever exhibition week this week since Open Studios dissolved. My work and that of many others can be seen at Sue Rudlands lovely studio at Rookery Farm, Silverstone. See www.an-arts.org.uk for details. Will be painting there tomorrow, Friday and Saturday mornings and would welcome some company!

Figs and white bowls

Same beautiful bowl, with another, sitting on top of my shadow box by the window. I’m off to London tomorrow to do some portrait/figure painting in the Mall Galleries with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. I’m really looking forward to it plus, I get to see some familiar faces and their annual exhibition to boot….. A good day out indeed.

A sad day indeed today, the great Nelson Mandela  has passed.  A very inspirational soul with a lot of mettle, much like my grandmother whose bowl is now a treasured reminder.

I think this is going to be my last post for a while.  I’ve got so much to do to get ready for my imminent departure to Pakistan and haven’t started yet.  I will be back in the blogosphere as soon as  I am sorted out over there and will be painting there and when I’m back in Chapel Cottage on my planned extended visits.  In the meantime, if you’d like a painting or print, do email me and I will ask the house sitter  to send it on to you.  It’s probably the easiest way rather than pressing the button as they are all out and about in galleries etc.  Keep subscribed and I will pop back into your inbox soon! Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.

These figs are from a friend’s garden.  The fig tree is his prize possession of her husband and he guards the crop closely.  This bounty had to be smuggled out for me.  I’m confident he doesn’t read my blog otherwise I’d be rumbled.

Figs on a cloth

More figs. This wallpaper is not in my house but it’s a made up amalgamation of some I’ve seen and photographed. I’m gearing up for the forthcoming heat wave………..next week’s subject matter has gone in the fridge!

Figs and bowl on cloth

I’m back to figs although they are a rarity at this time of year my way. Hopefully they will be in good supply when family German head southeast at the end of the month for a couple of weeks.

Oil on canvas – NFS

At last I’ve finished all commissions and am going to hang up my brushes now until after Christmas, principally to give the old frozen shoulder some healing time……….but more likely to do my Christmas mum jobs.   I’ll be Googling my online shopping before ordering on Amazon and heading off to Starbucks for a coffee…………not.   The painting shown here is a commission and is on quite a big canvas.  I managed to get it done before the beasts started to pong but couldn’t quite bring myself to put them in the pot.   The winner of the Christmas draw (below) is julie@yeo……….Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Figs in ramekin

8”x8”, oil on gessoboard-SOLD

I don’t know why but I’m really drawn to this Jamie Oliver ramekin which is that lovely dark grey which is oh so trendy at the moment.    I’ve been busy sprucing up the studio for the weekend and also filling in my stock sheets for the new pop-up shop in Northampton to open next week in St. Giles street.  It will be full of lovely things made by local artisans.  More on that later.
