Lemons and cherries

Just about settled back on my perch after the trip to Patchings.  Always such good fun with lots of new artists and old friends to catch up with plus lots of lovely customers.  A big welcome to all my new subscribers.  It was lovely to meet you all.  I did a few oil sketches whilst I was there and here is one of them.  I can’t quite believe our luck with the weather and am just waiting for the stooks in our village to be cut and stacked so that I can go and paint them.  In the meantime, I’m still busy catching up on gallery work and trying to fit in a few painting trips in between.  I have workshops on Monday and Tuesday in Yardley Hastings, Northants at their gorgeous new art centre.  There’s room for one more if you’re interested.

Mussels and lemons

I was painting these for a gallery and thought I’d do a quick sketch first to sort out my yellows.  It seems as though summer is here (not sure what happened to spring) so it’s, I hope, a taste of things to come bringing thoughts of eating seafood in the balmy sunshine by the sea somewhere.  We had a fishy supper following the completion of said painting.  I was a little nervous as the mussels had been in the studio all day but I managed not to kill anyone.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Lemons on a shelf

I’m hiding in my studio trying to keep my ears away from the news which seems to me, never really gets much better.  I’d like a good news story.  Here are some lemons.  When life gives you lemons, make lemonade they say.  I didn’t.  Maybe tomorrow, probably not.

Baby lemons and silk

The sun came back out today thankfully and it’s Friday to boot! Still working on these little lemons and found the cute little coffee cup I bought here last year.
Apparently I am in this month’s edition of Artist and Illustrator. Hopefully my copy will be sitting on the mat when I get home. I’m back to blighty next week and needing to prepare for the festivities so will probably not be blogging until January. Merry Christmas to you all.

Baby lemons and bowl

These are new-crop lemons which are pretty sharp at this stage! Ok for a gin and tonic though of course.
I’m glad I did this yesterday as it’s pretty dark today and I’m having seeing well enough to paint. It’s raining cats and dogs but then I don’t suppose I’ll get much sympathy from you over the pond! I hear the rain in Cumbria is back and causing more flooding. Hope everyone is ok.

Asparagus and lemons

Still dazed by the surprise election results, I hid in the studio and put my mind to some asparagus. This my favourite time of the culinary year….can’t get enough of the stuff. Am trying out a watermark app which is why my name is plastered on the image. Any interesting recipes always welcome. Pop them in my comments box if you please. Have a lovely weekend. Workshops on Monday and Tuesday so no post till mid-week.

Lemons on blue

A request for more King’s blue…yay. This colour makes me happy. Now I have five lemons in my fridge and no time to bake a cake. Any ideas for some quick way to use them up?
I was thrilled today to receive my delivery of frames that I found on my trip to South Africa. They are made from recycled wood by a company that aims to get local, previously unemployed people from a hope centre, into training and work. I love them!

Lemons in rice bowl

I needed a good excuse to get my new blue out again and these were just the job! It’s such a slooooow drier though. Sorry about the rubbish photo but you get the idea.

Lemons in a dessert dish

The lemons we get here are pretty small at this time of year but very cute and just the perfect size, halved, for a gin and
tonic……so I’m told.

I thought I’d done with this bowl but have managed to squeeze one more out before it gets returned to its rightful owner. The sun is out and it’s just a matter of time before things start popping up to be painted. I have, in a bucket outside, some beautiful red japonica which a friend gave me to paint. Tomorrow, tomorrow.
