Narcissi study

I hd a lovely morning at Coton Manor yesterday giving a demo.   It was, of course, miserable and wet so we had to be indoors and resort to a jug full of magnolia as so few blooms are appearing in this gloom.  Anyway, it was great fun and I met lots of lovely new people.  I thought I’d take this opportunity to remind you that I have workshops coming up in the summer at Yardley Arts Centre.  Still life on 23rd July and flower painting on 24th, all levels welcome so do email me if you’re interested.  I also have just a couple of places left on the painting trip to France – again all levels welcome.

Here’s one I made earlier plus a sneaky peak at the magnolia from yesterday which still needs a bit of tweaking.

Well, here we are…..it’s Easter. Feeling a bit chilly but will be lovely to have Flora home and Joe will be coming round too plus extended family. Hoping for a nice walk at some stage and supper with friends tomorrow.
Hope you all have a wonderful Easter.

Narcissi and teapot

I love it when spring arrives and you can fill your house with flowers. Every container in the house gets used! I wanted to let you know that I’m doing a painting demo at Coton Manor gardens on April 10th as a follow up to my exhibition which still has a week or two to run. Exhibition is at 78 Derngate  https://www.78derngate.org.uk/ and the demo sign up is http://www.cotonmanor.co.uk/garden_school_programme.php.  Here are some daffs to be getting on with.

I couldn’t resist another go at these narcissi and this old jam jar which has shades of blue/green in it.

Narcissi 1

I bought these back from a trip to St. Ives a couple of weeks ago.  The fields of daffs were just turning and the poor pickers were out in the freezing cold.  I was also freezing on the beach, painting but more on that later.  Just to let you know that the new dates for workshops are up on the website should you be interested.

I was drawn to these in Waitrose when I was home last week. I didn’t have long but just enough time to do a fast and furious oil sketch to try and convey their papery texture and soft colour. As I say, it was a very quick one!

Narcissi in a green jar

I have been painting today but have struggled with the temptation to watch another episode of House of Cards season 3. I am a true addict but I didn’t give in. I wonder if there is some therapy available. Right, blog done……what shall I do now…hmmm. Ok Kevin, I’m all yours.

I got off the plane early yesterday morning to stair-rod rainfall which persisted all day and most of the night. Today is dry but not much sun so I’m hanging onto the memory of these bright narcissi that I painted last week. Hopefully the weather will improve!
