Portrait

Please excuse the prolonged absence. Things got on top of me but I’m back in Pakistan now and up and running at the easel. It’s getting hot here too! Last week, if you remember, I was in London doing a portrait workshop which was great fun if hard work. I made new painting buddies and we are hoping to meet up for some Plein-air painting later on in the year. So, I thought I’d show you a couple of “progression” photos of the work in hand. Of course, I forgot to take an ” end” photo is will have to show you that in April when I return. These two are the first pass (ie finding the major tonal shapes) and the nearly there stage. The model was called Namushka with the most amazing head of hair and the patience of a saint.

. My favourite portrait at the moment is by one of my all time favourite painters dairmuid Kelley, called “a forest” for reasons best known to himself. Not only is it a magical rendering of light and texture, it also features one of my favourite props – yes, wallpaper – great minds?

Eggshells

12x16", oil on canvas

12×16″, oil on canvas

I’m looking forward to getting back to my garden studio this week (if it’s not underwater) and some inspiring fruits, vegetables and flowers, imported or not.  In the meantime, here’s a larger painting of the ubiquitous eggshells.  Right, off to find my flippers.

This is not a daily painting but I had to post it because, much to my excitement, I’ve just discovered it has made it through the first round of selection for the New English Art Club open.   That, by no means is guarantee of final selection, but it’s a start…..watch this space.  Today I had three visitors come to my open studio from Birmingham.  After coffee and a good chat, they went away happy with not only some of my work but also bags full of plums from our tree which is groaning under the strain.

Jug and eggshells

I’m packing up for Patchings Art Festival this coming weekend so no daily today or this week in fact. Heading up there on Wednesday to hang (paintings!)and it opens on Thursday. Looking forward to meeting lots of people, so if you are nearby, please drop in. There will be lots of artists, artworks and art materials for sale plus cream teas! Here is a larger painting I’m just loading up. Have a great week of sunshine.

Fred

Not a daily painting today. This was a commission for a birthday and stars the inimitable Fred who, in this painting is giving a convincing impression of an obedient Labrador, if such a thing exists. I had to chase him around my kitchen with the camera when he came for a “sitting” – the inoperative word.

Plums and bowl

12”x16”, oi on canvas

Yesterday was very busy at the Country Living Fair.  Today I have been packing up the car for the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair this weekend and am off in the morning.  Here’s another of the larger paintings that will be going with me and I have also posted a photo of it in its infancy……at blocking in stage.  I will also have plenty of daily paintings.  I hope to see some of you at the fair.  If you get this on social broadcasting, I’d be very grateful if you could ”share” or ”retweet” …………get me!  Well, every little helps.

Figs (on canvas)

Oil on canvas 12”x24”

I thought I would blog some of the larger paintings I’m taking to Windsor on Friday.  They are all packed up and ready to go.  I just need to find a home for the dog for the weekend and remember not to put petrol in my diesel tank this time!  I’m still daily painting and will be up until Thursday.   To purchase this painting, please contact me direct.  If anyone would like tickets to the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair next weekend, do let me know.

Prince’s Trust painting

8”x8”, oil on canvas – NFS

I’m still beavering away – hardly seen the light of day and living out of the freezer – who’d have thought plums and fish fingers would make such a good marriage.  Only kidding but I am working hard.   Today I finished the painting for the Prince’s Trust sale of art at Windsor on November 9th.  All participating artists in the fair are donating one and here’s mine.

Cox’s apples on canvas

oil on canvas, 70cmx35cm

Not much painting happening today.  Instead, I am surrounded by tools, tape, bubble wrap and picture wire in a bid to get everything packed up for London.  Here is one of the larger paintings on canvas that will be showing.  I won’t be posting now until after the Jubilee as I’m heading up to London tomorrow.  I’m hoping to get a glimpse of the pageant whilst I’m there.   Don’t forget, by signing up for my blog, you will be in with a chance of winning the strawberries. Have a happy long holiday weekend.

ketchup

5''x7''', oil on canvas - SOLD

So after the mushrooms, it’s ketchup.  As I have B&B guests again this weekend, I thought a breakfast theme, no?  Speaking of B&B guests, what with that and the other things taking up my time like holidays, visitors and a painting workshop, things on the old blogging front may be a little sporadic over the next few weeks but will be full-on back to the grindstone come mid-August.  To save time, why not sign up on the right here and the new posts will drop into your inbox as and when.  It’s very easy and safe as I will never give your details away!  Just enjoy:)
