Shirgar Fort, Baltistan

Ooops. This new time zone gets me confused and I keep forgetting to post! Here’s the other painting I managed in the north of Pakistan last week. This is the beautiful Shirgar Fort which dates back to 15thC but is now a sympathetically-restored hotel – the fort part being a museum. It nestles at the foot of the Karakorums and is an idyllic hideaway. This view was looking over the wall to the river, next to one of the many ancient balconies. Was a quick morning sketch as my holiday buddies were waiting to get on the road.

Hindu Temple

I had a lovely afternoon yesterday painting in Islamabad, an old Hindu Temple from pre-partition days. Lots of little scallywags watching me and chirruping away in Urdu despite the fact that I told them I didn’t understand.
Anyway here’s the end result. The yellow domed building will be next on my list.

Jonquils in a honey jar

I’m having a lot of trouble with my boards. A bad workman and all that…….but they seem to be super-absorbent and I dont know if it’s the paint I’m priming them with or the boards themselves. It’s a mystery but finding supplies here is tricky and my Urdu being pretty non-existent means labels are an even bigger mystery. Hey ho. Onwards and upwards, think I’ll try and find some more primer. Had a great day painting on Sunday at an historical railway station and seemed to attract an awful lot of attention from local children and Afghani children who live by the tracks. They seem all to have nine lives or more! They are gorgeous but don’t really get the concept of personal space. It was pretty difficult trying to paint with them all pushing, shoving and poking around in my kit. Jobbers came to the rescue with a large bag of Haribo!

Late roses 2

Good morning from a bright and sunny Pakistan. I’ve just about settled back in and have hit the easel this morning but rather than photograph a wet painting (doesn’t work well), here’s one I did before I left. Straining the last little drop from that lovely rose……..here’s the very last one of the year!!

Last hydrangeas

I managed to find a few hydrangea heads hanging on! This will be the last blog for a few days while I fly back to Pakistan and wrestle with the jet-lag. See you on the other side……

Peonies 3

The last of the peonies sadly. I really enjoyed them this year and wish the season were longer. Here in Pakistan it’s hot, hot, hot but quite a bit of rain coming and going. The shops are full of mangoes, cherries, peaches and apricots. That should keep me busy next week! Have a great weekend.

Radishes and Multan jug

This blue nod white pottery is made in Multan Pakistan and is steadily growing on me. I thought it was a little crude at first but it’s a case of sifting through till you find the quality.

Brussels and baubles v Christmas pomegranate

I need your help again. Before I put Christmas to bed and wend my way back to Pakistan, please could you help me to decide which of these images will be my fourth image for next year’s Christmas cards? You need to get into the voting habit for May so you may as well start now…..pretty please. Back next Monday when I will be at my easel on the other side of the world….again. Thanks for your help.

Coffee cup and rose

I expect you are thoroughly sick of this cup by now! You’ll be glad to hear I’ve left it behind in Pakistan so won’t be taking a starring role again until I get back. Hopefully will find some time to paint next week but two days at mall galleries. Tuesday at private view of Royal institute of oil painters (let me know if you’d like an invitation) and Wednesday at a portrait demo by June Mendoza. Will be nice to sit and watch! Have a great weekend. Looking forward to watching a lovely young couple tie the knot tomorrow… Good luck Fred and Alice.

Roses in a blue jar

Good Monday to you. Calm has descended on CC today with Floss back to school and jobbers back to Pakistan…..and breathe. I’m hoping to get a lot more painting done now although I have plenty of zipping up and down motorways scheduled in. Hey-ho, here’s a start anyway, the last hangers-on.
