Peonies demo

Well, a good weekend and delightful Childwickbury although extremely tiring!
I’m spending this week getting ready for wedding/holiday/birthday celebrations so will post the ones that I did as demos at the weekend. Here’s the first where I struggled with the diffused light in the marquee.

Pitcher of peonies

All hung at Childwickbury. I’ll be up with the lark in the morning and heading back down the M1 with my paints to demonstrate. Fridays is great as there’s always a visit from some primary school children who ask the most hilarious questions – can’t wait to hear what tomorrows will be. I’m squeezing every last drop out of the peony season and have some in the fridge to take with me tomorrow but think the petals will probably all drop off en route. Cherries packed as back-up!

Pink peonies again

I’m very sad that we’ve come to the end of peony season but at the same time, it will be nice to move on. I’m a bit peonied-out. Today is packing up for Childwickbury day which is a bit of a mission……getting it all in the car. If I don’t get a chance to blog tomorrow when I’m setting up, have a great weekend and hope to see some of you there.

White peonies 2

Phew, my studio is like a furnace so I decamped to the kitchen to paint these and made use of the skylight. I really like the light coming from above so I may have to make a permanent move and send the family to live in the studio.

Pink peonies

Good morning. I’m still on my peony roll and enjoying it so far. The weather has battered them all somewhat so I’ve been having to resort to friends’ gardens for their remnants. I bought some last week from a very well-known (and expensive shop) that were in bud and they have never bloomed!! They are still in tight bud form and starting to shrivel. I’m not amused but since the nearest branch is 10 miles away, I’m not going to return them and have a moan. In the meantime, here are some from last week. I’m waiting for the sun to come out so that I can get along to Coton Manor and paint the peonies in the beds there. Fingers crossed.

Jug of peonies

Right! I’m on a peony mission this week. I actually did these a couple of weeks back but I’m still painting peonies and trying to capture that translucency. It’s going to be a long road so bear with me……………..

Wow, thank you.

Thanks to everyone who made it to my open studios this weekend but also to all of those who follow my blog, facebook page or instagram account.  Painting is what I love to do and when you buy something, you help me carry it on and when you read my blog, with or without comment, it makes it all worthwhile so – thank you!  Ohhhh yes, I took my gushy pill this morning.

These packs of Chrismas cards proved popular and are now available on my website.

I managed this one before everything in the garden got flattened by rain and strangled by rampant bindweed.  It was done as a step-by-step demo for an article in The Artist due out in the winter so I’ll let you know when it’s out. It sold at the weekend.
