Anemones

I love anemones and their jewel-like colours. So, anyway, thought I’d let you in on some good news (unless you follow me on FB in which case….sorry to go on again). On Sunday I was elected an associate member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists which was very exciting. Next step is to go forward as a full member next year. The RBSA is a lovely society which, I have discovered, is the oldest royal society of art after the Royal Academy and former presidents include many of the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood. Their first exhibition was held under the patronage of many famous artists including JWTurner. There, a potted history for you.
Below you can see the half-finished plein-air painting of the bluebells at Coton Manor.

He’ll looo, I’m back!  That was a long break.  I’d like to report that I achieved great things but no……..my to-do list is still longer than a Christmas eve checkout queue.  Oh we’ll, I did have a lovely holiday so it’s not all bad.  Whilst I’ve been away, the portrait that I had accepted into the RBSA open has been hanging in Birmingham and I was delighted to see it hanging in such excellent company, next to some BP portrait winners.

I discovered this wallpaper by a company called Missprint and its retro style immediately appealed.

My favourite rose. What a busy couple of days getting ready for Flora going off on hockey tour to South Africa. Economical packing is not in her vocabulary at all. Anyway, I waved her off this afternoon and am feeling a little bereft so will hit the easel hard tomorrow. Some exciting news: my portrait of Diana has been accepted into the RBSA portrait prize exhibition which is a massive thrill, especially for my first proper portrait. The exhibition runs from next Wednesday in Birmingham if you’re interested in going.
